Many residents pride themselves on their landscaping. Did you know, however, that trees and shrubs can cause a major foundation issue? Trees or shrubs with expanding roots can remove water from the soil around your home. They can also produce roots that will grow into the foundation of your home and cause damage.
While some southeastern shrubs and trees can grow roots into the foundation, it is more commonly found that shallow roots are consuming water from the soil around a home. This adds to uneven water saturation in the ground surrounding your home. If your foundation is showing movement near trees or shrubs, please check out the signs of foundation failure. Your home is your greatest investment. Be aware of any signs of foundation damage and check often, measure movement in your home, and never ignore a foundation crack!
